Global Impact

Through our NU-Q, our international branch campus in Qatar, and a variety of student organizations that address global issues, Northwestern has an international presence.

Northwestern in Qatar

Since 2008, Northwestern has partnered with the Qatar Foundation to provide Northwestern University in Qatar. NU-Q brings all the history and distinction of Northwestern to Doha and offers students the opportunity to study media and earn a bachelor of science in journalism or communication.

Northwestern University Conference on Human Rights

The Northwestern University Conference on Human Rights (NUCHR) provides a forum for the discussion of global issues through the lens of human rights by organizing the largest undergraduate student-run conference on human rights in the United States, going on service-learning trips both in Chicago and overseas, and hosting events, speakers, and movie screenings on campus. NUHCR is Northwestern's leading voice for human rights on campus.

The Global Engagement Summit

This student-founded, student-organized and student-run team of 50-60 Northwestern undergraduate students seeks to build the capacity of the next generation of global change makers. Through the Global Engagement Summit (GES), delegates and staff come together to gain skills that will enable them to better plan, execute and participate in change-based projects. It is also an opportunity to connect with like-minded peers from around the world. GES is the only conference of its kind for students.

Engineers for a Sustainable World

Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW) empowers students to take on leadership roles in applying the principles of sustainability to their present and future work through action-based engineering projects, and the education of students and the community on sustainability. Since its inception, ESW has advanced sustainability at Northwestern and around the world, and has inspired several students to go on to careers in industry, policy, and organizations promoting sustainability.

Global Engagement Studies Institute

The Global Engagement Studies Institute (GESI) prepares undergraduate students with the knowledge, tools, and experiences to confront global challenges. Through transformative opportunities in international service learning, GESI assists students to form partnerships with grassroots NGOs and communities in the developing world, and to advance sustainable, community-driven change. GESI has sites in six countries (Uganda, Bolivia, India, Nicaragua, South Africa, Dominican Republic) and has hosted over 200 students from more than 40 universities.
